Forbidden love: the welfare state Americans hate the government, except for when we don’t. If we are honest, we all depend on the feds to some degree. We want the federal government totally out of our lives, until we need it in our lives. We shout, “no new taxes!” But then we are more than happy to have Uncle Sam pay for grandma’s cataract surgery, dole out Social Security payments or widen a highway. The truth is that we live in a welfare state, and even the most diehard tea partier needs the government. So let’s stop attacking the idea of Washington and focus instead on how to better deliver the services and benefits we all want, but don’t like paying for.

Wow. One of the smartest things said by someone published by DMN. He is right we live in a welfare state, the top 20-50% of the people take care of everyone. A welfare state doesn’t me pure socialism like the Tea Party would like for you to believe. It means currently the government love it or hate it provides everyone with a safety net. This isn’t a bad thing, however, there are times when safety net needs adjustments to keep up with changing technology and demographics.  So instead of cutting SS and Medicare we should be adjusting it for it to run into perpetuity.
